Zoetrope
Ronak Hingarh Design Studio [RH(a+d)] unveils 'Zoetrope', a cutting-edge lighting installation that reinterprets the classic principles of the zoetrope—a pre-film animation device that creates the illusion of motion by displaying a sequence of drawings or photographs showing progressive phases of that motion. Inspired by the elemental interaction of earth, water, fire, and wind, 'Zoetrope' merges terracotta and textiles in its innovative design. This blend of traditional ceramics with modern textile techniques results in a unique sculptural light that is not only a source of illumination but also a dynamic piece of art. 'Zoetrope' embodies the harmony of material studies and architectural elegance, offering a mesmerizing visual experience that captures the essence of motion and time through space. Stay tuned for the debut of this sculptural light, which promises to be a centerpiece in any setting.
"A work of art does not answer questions, it provokes them; and its essential meaning is in the tension between the contradictory answers."
-Leonard Bernstein
Crafted from modular panels the piece abstracts the intricate carvings of original deepmalas, designed to interlock and form a seamless & cylindrical sculpture. This not only maintains the aesthetic essence of its ancient inspirations but allows for a unique reinterpretation and experience with the help of specifically designed lighting for it.
A unique feature of this installation is a rotating base that is inspired by the Buddhist prayer wheel. This movement invites interaction. As the visitor spins the stambh, the skin of the sculpture cuts the light projected at it thus beginning a metaphoric and hypnotic dance of light and (dark) shadows, symbolising a timeless battle between light and darkness.
Perfect for private collections, luxury spaces, and art galleries, the Deep Jyoti Stambh stands as a powerful symbol of change and introspection.
