The Deep Jyoti Stambh is an evocative kinetic sculpture designed and developed by architect Ronak Hingarh. The stambh (a column) is inspired by the 'Deepmalas'- free standing ornamental structures seen outside traditional Hindu temples across southern India. This contemporary piece reinterprets the age-old practice of lighting diyas (oil lamps) on these deepmalas to banish the darkness and usher light into the temples.

Crafted from modular panels the piece abstracts the intricate carvings of original deepmalas, designed to interlock and form a seamless & cylindrical sculpture. This not only maintains the aesthetic essence of its ancient inspirations but allows for a unique reinterpretation and experience with the help of specifically designed lighting for it. A unique feature of this installation is a rotating base that is inspired by the Buddhist prayer wheel. This movement invites interaction. As the visitor spins the stambh, the skin of the sculpture cuts the light projected at it thus beginning a metaphoric and hypnotic dance of light and (dark) shadows, symbolising a timeless battle between light and darkness.

Perfect for private collections, luxury spaces, and art galleries, the Deep Jyoti Stambh stands as a powerful symbol of change and introspection.
